The practice-area evaluation results of the "2026 Korea Law Firm Consumer Report" showed that areas of strength were dispersed across different law firms. While major law firms received consistently high ratings across various sectors, boutique law firms outperformed major firms in International Arbitration and Intellectual Property (IP).
The practice areas evaluated in 2026 were: Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A), Banking and Finance, Capital Markets, Corporate Governance, Tax, Antitrust and Competition, Labor and Employment, Serious Accidents, International Trade and Arbitration, Intellectual Property, Data Privacy, IT & TMT, Construction and Real Estate, Environment and Energy, Anti-Money Laundering, Regulatory and Criminal Investigations , Legislative Affairs, Criminal Litigation, Civil Litigation, Administrative Litigation, and Family Law (Inheritance, Divorce, and Asset Division). Compared to 2025, two new areas?"Investigative Agency Response" and "Legislative & Regulatory Affairs"?were added across 19 categories, reflecting the trend of corporate legal teams seeking multi-faceted legal counsel from law firms.

The criteria for grouping in the practice-area evaluation differed from the capability evaluation. While the capability evaluation had hundreds of participants per item, the practice-area evaluation had fewer participants, prompting different standards per category. For instance, in International Trade and Arbitration, law firms with 10 or more evaluation participants were classified into . As the participant threshold was lower, in practice areas included both major law firms and boutique law firms.
Similar to the capability evaluation, practice-area evaluation results were not concentrated on a single firm. Yulchon received the highest score in across 8 of the 21 areas: Construction and Real Estate, Capital Markets, Serious Accidents, Environment and Energy, Legislative Affairs, Civil Litigation, Criminal Litigation, and Administrative Litigation. Jipyong received the highest rating in across 4 areas: Antitrust and Competition, Labor and Employment, Data Privacy, and Regulatory and Criminal Investigations. In Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A), Shin & Kim received the highest rating with 4.61 points, followed by Kim & Chang (4.60 points).

In IT & TMT, Shin & Kim placed highest with 4.70 points, followed by Bae, Kim & Lee (4.56 points) and Yulchon (4.51 points). In Corporate Governance, Lee & Ko led Yulchon (4.70 points) with 4.74 points. In Tax, Kim & Chang scored 4.80 points, followed by Yulchon with 4.76 points. In Banking and Finance, Bae, Kim & Lee scored the highest at 4.56 points.
In International Trade and Arbitration, specialized boutique and foreign law firms were highly praised. Peter & Kim scored the highest in with 4.78 points, followed by Yulchon (4.58 points) and Shin & Kim (4.53 points). Participants commented that Peter & Kim demonstrated "thorough case handling and swift communication." In , Paul Hastings (4.83 points), Covington & Burling (4.71 points), and Herbert Smith Freehills (4.66 points) formed the top rank.
Boutique law firms also stood out in Intellectual Property (IP). Shinwon, an IP-specialized law firm, had a smaller pool of 14 evaluation participants but scored the highest in with 4.85 points. This was followed by Yulchon (4.68 points), Lee & Ko (4.64 points), Kim & Chang (4.63 points), and Shin & Kim (4.61 points).

Participants responded that Shinwon offers "excellent expertise with lower legal fees compared to major law firms."
Jipyong scored the highest in across four areas: Antitrust and Competition (4.70 points), Labor and Employment (4.63 points), Data Privacy (4.76 points), and Regulatory and Criminal Investigations (4.54 points). In Environment and Energy, Jipyong scored 4.45 points, and in Administrative Litigation, 4.40 points?representing increases of 0.51 and 0.31 points, respectively, compared to 2025.
The newly established Regulatory and Criminal Investigations category drew 717 evaluation participants in 2026, similar to Criminal Litigation (706 participants). Alongside Jipyong, Kim & Chang (4.46 points), Bae, Kim & Lee (4.45 points), and Yulchon (4.42 points) received favorable evaluations.
The Family Law category evaluated inheritance, divorce, and division of property cases. No law firm had 15 or more evaluation participants. Yulchon had the highest number of participants at 10, receiving a score of 5.00. Kim & Chang received a score of 5.00 from 3 participants. Bae, Kim & Lee received a score of 4.75 from 4 participants.
